To support the development of the 'Digitalisation Strategy of Poland until 2035' and to drive the digital transformation of our country, we have prepared for stakeholders a compendium of knowledge on global best national digitalisation strategies.
The publication is the result of a multidimensional analysis of the digital transformation efforts of more than 80 countries to date. We have presented the four phases of preparing, developing, implementing and monitoring the effects of a digitalisation strategy by presenting global best practices based on ITU data. We also evaluated selected strategies and discussed the digitalisation strategies of Estonia, Japan and Norway.
For years, Japan has remained one of the world leaders in advanced and disruptive technologies that underpin its digitalisation strategy. These technologies not only drive innovation, but are also central to the country's vision of digital transformation. Thanks to them, Japan is successfully developing systems to support key sectors of the economy and streamline public administration. I am glad that the foundation has looked at the implementation of the vision of societies 5.0, as Japan places great emphasis on the inclusion of society in the decision-making processes of the state through digitisation, which can be an inspiring example for Poland as well - says Dariusz Kwiecinski, General Director of Fujitsu Poland.
Analyses indicate that 50% of all countries worldwide have adopted digitalisation strategies. However, the development of digital policies in different regions of the world is clearly uneven. Only about 18 countries - less than 10% worldwide - have undertaken a comprehensive national digital transformation. The key to success has been to diagnose needs, allocate resources for implementation and continuously monitor the progress of the strategy, as well as to secure political support at the highest level for the entire process. Leaders of leading digital economies are well aware of the opportunities that digitalisation offers - it is fundamental to ensuring the competitiveness of local businesses and the well-being of society.
Strategies are not the invention of irresponsible visionaries, although visionary thinking is needed in order not to be misled by the sometimes overwhelming conditions of today. In today's world full of uncertainty, the creation of strategies has a planning significance - it allows the construction of specific action plans in different time perspectives or appropriate conditions for the most optimal development scenarios. In today's world, when it comes to development - addressing digital issues is in itself fundamental and crucial for any kind of transformation, because probably all dimensions of development - economic, social, cultural, educational, environmental, quality of life - are already using digital tools. Therefore, digitisation strategies are becoming an obligatory aspect and canon of many comprehensive development strategies says dr Michał Boni, President of the Digital Poland Foundation.
