We had the pleasure of participating in a unique event - the debate 'Digital sovereignty - from words to actions', organised by THINKTANK, Bertelsmann Stiftung and the Polish Economic Institute.
As the Digital Poland Foundation, represented by Dr. Michał Boni (President), Piotr Mieczkowski (Managing Director) and Dr. Agnieszka Jankowska (Board Member), we actively joined the discussion on Europe's digital sovereignty - a key topic for the future of our continent.
The roundtable brought together representatives of public administration, business, think tanks and academia, creating a space for a substantive exchange of views. The event was opened by Minister Dariusz Standerski of the Ministry of Digitalisation. The closed session attracted almost double the number of participants during the summit, which was the best indication of the importance of the issues discussed. The assumptions of a report on Europe's digital (in)dependence, prepared by Think Tank experts, were presented during the meeting. We discussed the sources of the digital dependency imbalance, key risks and concrete actions that can strengthen technological sovereignty at national and EU level.
President Michał Boni, PhD as one of the experts opening the debate, stressed the need to build an innovation ecosystem that will give Europe greater independence in key technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and cyber security. Piotr Mieczkowski drew attention to the role of cooperation between the public and private sectors in creating standards, the use of which should be enforced in tenders. Agnieszka Jankowska, sharing her insights, emphasised the importance of digital education and competence building as the foundation of technological sovereignty.
The debate was not only inspiring, but also practical. Together, we mapped digital dependencies, completed the list of risks and gathered valuable feedback from participants, including representatives of the European Commission, such as Renate Nikolay, and the Ministry of Digitalisation. The discussion showed that digital sovereignty is not just a buzzword, but a complex process requiring action on many levels - from regulation to investment to international cooperation.
As a foundation, we are looking forward to the final version of the report, which will be published in the autumn. We would like to thank the organisers for the invitation and all participants for engaging in this important discussion.
