Artificial intelligence: a super-tool or a threat to our autonomy? Michał Boni on EKG discusses the future of human-machine relations

Artificial intelligence is transforming our world at an unprecedented pace. On the one hand, it offers powerful support for medicine and business; on the other, it raises concerns about privacy, equality and our independence. In a world of algorithms, will we manage to preserve our well-being and agency? Dr Michał Boni spoke about the challenges of the digital age, smart regulation and the new currency that adaptability is becoming at this year’s European Economic Congress. We invite you to read the summary of the debate.

Artificial intelligence: a super-tool or a threat to our autonomy? Michał Boni on EKG discusses the future of human-machine relations

The European Economic Congress (22 April 2026) has now concluded, at which the President of the Digital Poland Foundation, Dr Michał Boni, took part in a debate entitled: ‘Technology, People, Balance’.

In the face of accelerated digitalisation and the generative AI revolution since 2022, we must ask ourselves key questions: how will we, as humans, survive this change, and in what condition will we find ourselves? Adaptability and digital skills are our new currency.

A few key takeaways from Dr Boni’s presentation:

- AI offers many benefits, but also poses real risks. Left unchecked and poorly trained, artificial intelligence can reinforce biases, lead to flawed decisions and discrimination.

- For sustainable development, we need legally guaranteed risk mitigation. Regulations must not be excessive, but must be thoughtfully implemented. Equally important is the ethical dimension of AI, which must be embedded in technologies right from the design stage.

- We must learn to function in this new reality. Intergenerational and public-private adaptability programmes are key to helping us maintain our creativity and find our feet in hybrid working models.

- We must ensure that rules are in place to curb technology companies’ desire to make a profit at any cost. Breaches of privacy and opaque algorithms (so-called ‘trauma algorithms’) can lead to addiction and harm the youngest members of society.

Artificial intelligence is a groundbreaking tool, but only a tool. To avoid the threat of its autonomy, we need global standards, informed business leaders, politicians who understand the AI revolution, and cooperation among all stakeholders.
